Monicknew Looped Walks
Monicknew trailhead and forest recreation area is located in Monicknew woodlands which form the boundary between the counties of Laois and Offaly. The Monicknew trailhead is the starting point for three looped walks which start and finish at the recreation area located next to the spectacular Monicknew Bridge. The long distance Slieve Bloom Way can also be accessed from this point. Whether you are just looking for a short stroll on the flat valley areas or a more substantial hike into the heart of the Slieve Blooms then there is walking option here for you. The shorter looped walks are family friendly and there is a perfect picnic spot by the bridge.

Monicknew is about 11.5 km south of Clonaslee on the road to Mountrath via the Cut road. Coordinates: 53.0702 -7.5432
Note that the upper sections of the longer trails can be shrouded in mist regularly, so take suitable clothes with you. Also please note that midges tend to occur on these walks during warmer weather so do remember to bring along some insect repellent.

The Slieve Bloom Walking Club organise walks every weekend of the year. All of these walks are led by an experienced and friendly walk leader who is very familiar with the mountains. These walks are post to the Walking calendar weekly.
